On October 7, 2025, the class of students from ISE at Tianjin Chengjian University, who are studying in Poland, officially embarked on their new semester academic journey. To help the students adapt more quickly to the rhythm of overseas classrooms and integrate into the professional learning environment, the accompanying teacher Jing Yifan made a special trip to the class of the Arch. & Urb. Research & Design course. He worked together with Polish teachers Tomasz Kozłowski and Rafał Zawisza to deliver a first-day-of-school lesson that combines professionalism with humanistic care, laying a solid foundation for the students' study in the new semester.

At the start of the class, Chinese and Polish teachers did not rush into explaining professional knowledge. Instead, they first focused on how well the students were adapting to daily life in Poland. Considering that the students had only recently arrived in Poland and were still in the process of adjusting to the local living environment and cultural atmosphere, the two Polish teachers, Tomasz Kozłowski and Rafał Zawisza, used a warm and friendly tone to ask each student individually if they were facing any difficulties with accommodation, meals, daily commuting, or other aspects of life. They listened patiently as the students shared their initial impressions of Poland and the problems they had encountered, and offered practical advice based on their own experiences. Meanwhile, Teacher Jing Yifan, leveraging the familiarity of communication in the students' native language , further supplemented answers to the students' questions regarding life transitions. This made the opening of the class filled with a warm and caring atmosphere.

After the discussion on life adaptation, the class moved on to an interactive self-introduction session. To enhance the students' international communication skills and professional expression literacy, Chinese and Polish teachers jointly encouraged the students to deliver their self-presentations in English. Every student had prepared carefully: in their introductions, they not only shared their names, professional focuses, and expectations for studying abroad, but also briefly mentioned their interests in the field of Architecture and Urban Research & Design based on their previous academic experiences. Some students talked about their attention to urban renewal projects, while others expressed their willingness to explore green building design. The teachers affirmed the students' clear expressions and positive attitudes, and also raised short questions regarding the professional directions mentioned by some students. This turned the self-introduction session into a preliminary attempt at professional communication, effectively alleviating the students' nervousness in class and allowing Chinese and Polish teachers to quickly gain an understanding of each student's individual situation.

After the self-introduction session, the core part of the class – the excellent assignment showcase – officially kicked off. To help students intuitively understand the course requirements and learning objectives, the teachers selected a number of representative outstanding assignments for presentation. Among them, the course assignments completed by previous batches of students were particularly eye-catching: taking the plot along the Haihe River in Tianjin as the design object, these assignments focused on museum architectural design and fully demonstrated the entire process from preliminary research, conceptualization of the scheme to the implementation of the design. During their study period in Kraków, Poland, the students completed the generation, repeated refinement and preliminary representation of the building massing, forming the prototype of the design scheme; after returning to China, they further refined and improved the scheme by integrating more on-site research data and professional guidance, and finally produced a complete design work along with a supporting thesis. This assignment, which spanned the students' study phases both at home and abroad, not only demonstrated the systematicness and coherence of the course, but also made the students studying in Poland realize the significance of "starting from familiar scenarios and connecting with international learning", thus enhancing their sense of belonging in professional learning.

In addition, the teachers also presented the final assignments of local Polish students. These assignments covered a variety of fields, including urban public space design and historical building renovation, and demonstrated distinct regional characteristics and innovative ideas in terms of design concepts, expression techniques, and material application. Some assignments vividly presented the integrated design of buildings and the surrounding natural environment through model-making; others meticulously simulated the functional layout and light effects of the internal space of buildings with the help of digital modeling. During the presentation, the students were fully focused, frequently taking out their notebooks to record key points. When encountering questions, they proactively raised their hands and engaged in in-depth discussions with Teacher Jing Yifan and the two Polish teachers.

As the students walked out of the classroom, their faces were filled with smiles of fulfillment, and they shared their feelings about the class one after another. The joint first-day lesson taught by Chinese and Polish teachers not only helped the students from ISE at Tianjin Chengjian University (who are studying in Poland) quickly adapt to overseas classes, but also built a preliminary bridge for Sino-foreign professional exchanges, injecting positive momentum into their professional learning in the new semester.
