Recently, under the organization and accompaniment of faculty members Li Yuan and Fu Rong, 59 undergraduates majoring in Architecture and Landscape Architecture from the 2024 intake, together with 29 postgraduates of the 2025 intake, of the International School of Engineering, Tianjin Chengjian University, arrived safely in Kraków, Poland, beginning their exchange and study journey. Crossing mountains and seas in pursuit of new horizons, this marks not only a fresh departure, but also a new chapter of growth, adaptation, and exploration.

To ensure that students could travel with support, settle in with ease, and begin their studies in an orderly manner, the faculty and students involved in the Poland exchange made thorough and careful preparations in advance, covering pre-departure arrangements, arrival coordination, accommodation, and daily-life adaptation. Their thoughtful efforts provided warm and reliable support for the journey ahead. On September 19, the accompanying faculty members and student class representatives held an online meeting via Tencent Meeting to communicate important travel reminders and clarify key precautions for departure. Afterwards, based on the students’ arrival times between September 20 and 27, the faculty members worked closely with the class representatives to develop grouped airport pickup plans, carefully checking flight information, arrival times, personnel distribution, and transportation arrangements, while also clarifying procedures and responsibilities. These efforts ensured that every student would be picked up at the airport, received upon arrival at the residence, and supported whenever help was needed.

As students departed in succession, the accompanying faculty members and class representatives immediately kept in touch through online communication and group coordination, guiding students to find their drivers accurately and assisting with gathering for transportation and luggage transfer, thus ensuring that the airport pickup process remained efficient and orderly. Upon arrival at the dormitory, the faculty members helped students complete check-in procedures, carefully verified accommodation documents, and provided detailed explanations of dormitory regulations, daily schedules, and the use of shared spaces, helping students make a smooth transition from “arriving in a foreign country” to “settling down with peace of mind.”

Focusing on the most immediate and practical concerns of students newly arriving in Poland, the accompanying faculty members, in light of local conditions, carefully explained matters such as obtaining SIM cards, paying living expenses, daily transportation, and shopping in nearby areas. They also reminded students to strengthen their awareness of personal safety, properly safeguard their documents and belongings, and maintain regular contact with teachers, class representatives, and family members back in China. In response to differences in language environment, payment habits, and lifestyle, the faculty members and class representatives also provided one-on-one guidance to help students adapt to their new surroundings as quickly as possible.

To help students integrate more quickly into the rhythm of local academic and daily life, the faculty and students also carried out systematic preparations in the areas of clothing, food, housing, transportation, and study. Before departure and after arrival, students gradually installed and familiarized themselves with commonly used applications for navigation, supermarket shopping, mobile service providers, apartment facility reservations, and public transportation ticketing, learning in advance how to use these tools effectively. With the support of faculty members and students who had arrived earlier, they also became increasingly familiar with nearby supermarkets, bus routes, dormitory laundry facilities, and the rules for using communal kitchens. Through repeated practice and mutual communication, students improved both their independent living skills and their cross-cultural adaptability, while also deepening their understanding of a different culture and way of life.

From pre-departure communication and coordination to airport pickup and accommodation support, and from daily-life guidance to adaptation preparation, every aspect of this exchange journey to Poland reflected the responsibility and care of the accompanying faculty members, the proactive commitment of student representatives, and the mutual support among the students themselves. Through this warm and effective collaboration between teachers and students, the initial nervousness and uneasiness of arriving in a foreign country gradually gave way to confidence and composure, allowing this exchange and study journey to begin smoothly in a supportive and well-organized atmosphere.
At present, the students have adapted relatively quickly to local living habits and the academic environment, and are actively becoming familiar with the campus and surrounding living conditions in preparation for the new semester, which will begin in October. This exchange and study experience in Poland has not only broadened the students’ international horizons, but also further strengthened their abilities in independent living, communication and cooperation, and cross-cultural adaptation. It is hoped that every student from the International School of Engineering, keep firm resolve and passion in their hearts, continue to expand their knowledge and abilities in the new environment, and write their own inspiring chapter of youth.
